WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Novelty single and video turns into a halfway decent record. No, really, it’s not half bad.
SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: Swedish folks in advertising and television decide to make a track. Why not? The track was “Hobo Humpin’ Slobo Babe”, which definitely is ear candy in all of its silliness and sexual allusions. The video was a sensation and the track fit in on alternative radio.
So, you know, they had to get an album together. Thing is, they got producers Falcon and Tricky to help them out, too. The result was a record that was sexual and all over the place, stylistically, but was fun for the most part.
A few things have been exiled, for sure. At least they didn’t try to rewrite their hit over and over again. Sure, they stuck with a sex motif for many tracks, but at least they sounded different.
NOTES & MINUTIAE: Their original record company declined their proposal for an album, for some reason, so Virgin came forward to sign them.
IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No
GRADE: B-: It’s not going to win any awards, but it’s kinda fun.
