WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Career spanning look at the duo’s career, which spanned almost a decade before Parton’s star eclipsed Wagoner.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: The TV shows, the detergent commercials, and the records for both Parton, Wagoner and as a duo. Their partnership was a very profitable venture for them both. It also got Parton noticed as a songwriter.

Parton & Wagoner were in homes every week and toured regularly, which helped the duo’s records gain notice. Even though sometimes they were full of “ha ha domestic violence is fun” spats where they both sing about clobbering each other as the song fades out.

As the duo got more popular, and Parton received more and more notice for her solo career (it took a long time), Dolly left the duo. Still, they left behind some standard country duets that are timeless.

NOTES & MINUTIAE: It’s hard to believe, but Parton was not accepted at first because Norma Jean was so popular as Wagoner’s duet partner.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No

GRADE: B: Docking a little for some of the allusions to marital spats that aren’t so clever anymore.
