WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Unstoppable hip-hop album from 1991 that holds up to this very day.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: Some albums from the early 90’s, no matter what genre, sound dated, corny, trite. Then there’s this smokin’ hot wax from Naughty by Nature.

The rhymes, flow and beats are all top-notch, and the samples are absolutely spot on, sampling everyone from the Jackson 5 to the Staple Singers to Boney M to Public Enemy and even the Beatles. Even without the big hit, this would be a solid album. The skits, which were starting to infiltrate rap, were kept to a minimum.

Then there’s “O.P.P.” which to this day will fill a dance floor to the brim. It’s a fantastic mix of samples, hooks, production, rhymes and flow. A must have in any collection.

NOTES & MINUTIAE: Two years earlier they released an album as The New style. The less said…

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No

GRADE: A: One of the best early 90’s hip hop albums. Heck, one of the best ones, period.
