OTHER SONGS YOU MAY KNOW: Not

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Full length debut by large, noisy, and snarky Welsh group. At times brilliant, at other times wearing.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: They’re a large group, and it sounds large. Lots of things are going on in the songs of Los Campesinos!, and especially in the vocal area.

Singers come and go, trading lyrics and lines, seemingly being a bit overwrought and rushed at times, like they only have a minute to tell you the news before the bomb goes off. It’s a unique sound, but as the album goes on it can wear you at times.

They have a lot of influences, and it shows. The kitchen sink isn’t thrown in on every song, but it’s always in the background. All in all, it’s an adventure and worth a try out.

NOTES & MINUTIAE: They released an EP earlier (that I didn’t realize wasn’t a compilation, sigh) before this full length.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No

GRADE: B+: They sound like they’re having fun. It does sound a bit overwhelming at times.
