ARTIST: Blackberry Smoke
TITLE: Bad Luck Ain’t No Crime
YEAR RELEASED: 2004
CHART ACTION: No
OTHER SONGS YOU MAY KNOW: I really doubt it.
LINEUP: Paul Jackson, Charlie Starr, Brit Turner, Richard Turner
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Southern rockers and touring maniacs release first album independently, and it rocks you with efficiency.
SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: There’s no real new ground being tread here by Blackberry Smoke, but southern-fried rock worked for many bands in the past, and it works for these guys as well. I could think of worse ways to spend some quality rockin’ time.
They have bits of several independent and popular southern rock bands in their sound. Basically, it’s power chord guitars, a good rhythm section, even some wah-wah, and a southern styled rock vocal. Reminds me of the Georgia Satellites, the Four Horsemen, or Drivin’ ‘n’ Cryin’ a bit. They do cover “Another Chance” by the Satellites as well.
With ‘country’ music really being half baked southern rock now, listen to the full-bake, wont’cha?
NOTES & MINUTIAE: The record label was called “Cock of the Walk”. Don’t know how many other records that lable released.
IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: A couple.
GRADE: B: It does the job you need it to do. Put on your gimme hat and drink a quart of Bud.
