The Bee Gees – The Bee Gees Sing & Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs

ARTIST: The Bee Gees 220px-Bgs1965
TITLE: The Bee Gees Sing and Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs
YEAR RELEASED: 1965
CHART ACTION: None
SINGLES: Most of these were Australian Singles
OTHER SONGS YOU MAY KNOW: Nope
LINEUP: Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, Maurice Gibb and uncredited others.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: A collection of some of the earliest Australian singles from 1963-65, plus new recordings, gathered up for the UK market to establish the brothers in England and as a bone to their Aussie fans.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: Barry was already a fairly accomplished songwriter at an early age, and he and his brothers had some success in Australia. However, this shows the brothers trying various styles that were in vogue at the time. The songs are pleasant but nothing really earth shattering and some of the rhymes are definitely forced.

At times, you can definitely tell it’s the Bee Gees – those three voices joining together are incomparable.

NOTES & MINUTAE: Some of these songs were collected on a US compilation called Rare, Precious & Beautiful. I’d say that rare is a good adjective for the collection.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No.

GRADE: C : Decent pop songs from the era. I mean, you can hear the talent. But I’m not going to be keeping this around.
