WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: A collection of this New Zealand band’s output. It includes all of their 80’s singles and EPs, and selections from their three 90’s albums.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: The song “Tally Ho” is the most famous record from the New Zealand record label Flying Nun, and starts off this compilation with a bang…well…a nice farfisa lick at least.

Because this spans a lot of territory, and is pretty complete, good ideas and bad are in here. Forty-six tracks make up this collection, which is an awful lot for those who don’t really know the band well. It’s really the only place to find their best, most influential records, though.

Those of us who like off kilter alternative pop-rock will find gems all over the place. It’s just staggering for those not fully invested in the band.

NOTES & MINUTIAE: They released two singles, two EPs and a rarities record before taking a break, and didn’t release their first album until nine years after their debut.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No

GRADE: B+: It’s good but it’s just a lot to bite off at first, and since there’s some chaff here the curious will need to be judicious.
