Electric Six – Fire

ARTIST: Electric Six
CHART ACTION: #5 US Dance, #7 UK
SINGLES: Danger! High Voltage (#2 UK), Gay Bar (#5 UK), Dance Commander (#40 UK)
OTHER SONGS YOU MAY KNOW: Nuclear War (On the Dance Floor)
LINEUP: Dick Valentine, Anthony Selph, Joe Frezza, Steve Nawara, Cory Martin, Christopher Tait (Using real names except Dick Valentine…)
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Fun, at times juvenile (or obvious) dance record that makes you want to set fire to a Taco Bell.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: From out of nowhere, really, came the Electric Six. They first released the Danger! High Voltage single and, well, the Taco Bell was never safe again from arsonists. The album followed suit, talking about gay bars, dancing, fire, nuclear war, and easing the seat back.

Like most bands who aren’t really serious and are more parodists or comedians, not everything lands and the songs that don’t land really are flat. That’s minimized on this record. Most everything scores or at least gives you a chuckle or five while you’re grooving.

It’s a pretty fun record to bounce around to. Don’t take it serious, though.

NOTES & MINUTIAE: Yes, they all have ridiculous names like Rock and Roll Indian, Surge Joebot, Disco and M.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No, but there was a Japanese version with bonus tracks.

GRADE: A-: I’m not expecting anyone to take them seriously, but this is a fine dance rock record at any rate even if you don’t want to go to the Gay Bar! Gay Bar! Gay Bar!
