WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: First solo album for long time Little Feat driving force is unfortunately his musical eulogy as well.
SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: Lowell George had a long career that took him from the odd to the mainstream. Little Feat had become popular but band infighting about direction gave him a reason to go solo.
Sadly, he was on the junk and not feeling his best. The album, though, is a good collection of top-notch late 70’s singer songwriter interpretations in a country and pop mode and some new songs that are equally laid back. It signaled a return to a direction Little Feat had gone in the mid-70’s and space he was comfortable in.
Alas, he OD’d during a tour to support this album, and the promise of this debut solo album was never fulfilled.
NOTES & MINUTIAE: The single on this album was a new interpretation of Irving Berlin’s standard Cheek to Cheek done 70’s style.
IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No.
GRADE: B: Nothing is spectacular, but everything is good. A good album for a rainy day.
