WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: A clattering, shouty debut that’s not so tuneful and rather disappointing given their later work.
SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: After a few independent releases, James got a record deal and released this album to the masses. While it does contain some grandiose melodies and a little bombast, it didn’t really come together as a whole.
The record sometimes sounds like the band members are fighting with each other for space, and the melodies are a bit unconnected from everything else. I know it’s a start and they’d get it together, but there’s nothing memorable about this. I’m exiling it.
NOTES & MINUTIAE: They were originally on Factory, but changed companies on concerns Factory was all image.
IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: No
