OTHER SONGS YOU MAY KNOW: I think that’s about it.
LINEUP: Meat Loaf, Ellen Foley, Todd Rundgren & Utopia, Roy Bittan, Jim Steinman, Edgar Winder, Max Weinberg, and others.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Bombastic, grandiose record is bombastic and grandiose.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: Everytime I listen to this album, I picture Meat Loaf sweating up a storm onstage, writhing, grimacing and giving it all to tell this sordid tale.

It’s a fun record to listen to, mostly. The cuts you know are the ones that are the best. The others, well, they’re not so hot to my ears, but they do have continuity to whatever the story Meat Loaf and Steinman were trying to say.

Again, this is a fun record – great for nostalgia and cranking up something when you need that bombast in your life.

NOTES & MINUTIAE: Steinman originally wrote three of the songs (two of the clunkers, actually) for a musical called Neverland – and that included the great spoken word intro (On a hot summer night…) to Bat Out of Hell.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: Yes. A couple out there.

GRADE: B: It’s cheesy and fun and if one or two of the draggy cuts would have been better I could have justified an A-. Such is life.
