The Prodigy – Experience

ARTIST: The Prodigy 220px-TheProdigyExperience

TITLE:  Experience

SINGLES: Charly (#112 US, #3 UK), Everybody in the Place (#70 US, #2 UK), Fire (#122 US, #11 UK), Out of Space (#43 US, #5), Wind It Up (#29 US, #11 UK),

OTHER SONGS YOU MAY KNOW: On the dance floor, maybe one or two more leaked through.

LINEUP: Liam Howlett. Simone and Maxim Reality sang on a couple of cuts.

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: EDM mix-master genius’ first album filled floors and turntables in the UK and somewhat in the US, becoming the standard bearers for the hardcore EDM movement.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: After a successful EP and single, Howlett’s project, the Prodigy, hit the stores and dancefloors with this, an EDM touchstone album.

You can definitely see the ravers dancing and moving to this album. There are a lot of samples, interesting synthesizers and production. It’s at a breakneck pace for the most part. It doesn’t really give you a rest until ¾ of the way through the album, and then that’s just a short breather until the beats of “Weather Experience” kick in.

As a dance record for mixing at a party, it’s great. For listening straight through, it’s better as background music since everything kind of rolls together and your brain gets exhausted in trying to keep up with the beats.

NOTES & MINUTIAE: Even though the stage version of the Prodigy has two dancers and a vocalist (Reality), Howlett did almost everything here by himself.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: Yes, remixes and b-sides on a separate disc.

GRADE: B+:I don’t know if I’d ever listen to it all the way through at one go again, but it’s quite an impressive EDM record.
