WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Debut from electronicia dance-rock band finds them searching for consistency and emulates most of their influences without forming their own sound.

SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: With every cut on this album, I could think of a band or two that it referenced. Whether it was Coldplay or Muse or U2 or even the Communards, every track had an antecedent. Which is all well and good, but it doesn’t make for a cohesive album or a very unique sound.

The big single, “Sweet Disposition” had many swooning and it definitely reminded me of a punchier Coldplay / U2 / Muse cross-pollination. Mandagi, the vocalist, definitely has a high range like a Jimmy Somerville or Thom Yorke, but it’s not that distinctive here.

There’s some decent pieces and parts, some decent songs and ideas. It just didn’t move me as a whole, especially when they turn towards a more electronic disco format

NOTES & MINUTIAE: “Sweet Disposition” was on the soundtrack to (500) Days of Summer.

IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: Yes, some online versions have bonus tracks.

GRADE: B-: I’m keeping this around, for now. There’s some potential here but I’m not quite hearing a full product yet – just component parts.
