SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: I don’t know what to say about this, really. If you are any way interested in the origins of rock and roll, then this is a collection to have. It only scratches the surface of Muddy Waters’ legacy, but these 50 tracks at least get you up to speed.

Look at the titles of the singles and other songs, and you probably know have of them by who else did them. The UK bands really mined his work for their electric blues in the 60’s.

For blues neophytes, many songs are very similar, and this can present a little problem in listening all the way through. Fear not, though, it’s perfect for a library that will be shuffled and for exploration.

NOTES & MINUTIAE: There are many other Muddy Waters compilations out there. This one does NOT have “You Need Love” which Led Zeppelin turned into “Whole Lotta Love” but you can find that on another compilation. Fact is, there’s no perfect Muddy Waters compilation.

GRADE: A: It’s missing a couple of tracks, and blues neophytes will need to take it in chunks. Still, man, you gots to have this if you care about the blues and music history.
