WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: From out of nowhere comes Ween, already deranged and mad. Somehow, this is 26 cuts of madness that wears pretty well.
SOME WORDS, PHRASES AND CLAUSES ABOUT THIS RECORD: They’re loud, rude, crude and socially unacceptable. That’s Ween, and their debut national release features a whole bunch of songs about everything and nothing.
They have genre goofs, satiric comedy songs, and just general weirdness. It’s also loud most of the time, and, as I said, deranged.
Sure, 26 songs is probably a bit much to sit through at once. But I can’t really think of any to jettison. Thank goodness for random play.
NOTES & MINUTIAE: Ween released several cassettes and albums independently, and some are still around to buy. Many of those tracks are on this release.
IS THERE A DELUXE VERSION: Yes, believe it or not. Three extra tracks!
GRADE: B+: It’s too long for an A, because it just wears you down. But individually it’s an excellent record.
